Pleasant Birthday

So, today was my birthday. But that isn't where I should start my story.

So, I have had a pain in one of my molars every time I have eaten something sweet for the last month. As I have not always been the model of dental hygiene, I concluded that it was possible it was a cavity. Yesterday I called the dentist to make an appointment. They asked me if I could come in the next day. I agreed. "OK, so 10 am on the 1st of September," the receptionist repeated to me. I went to enter this information into my phone. However, there was already something planned for that day. "Oh, look," I thought, "tomorrow is the dog's birthday," scrolling down further I discovered another reminder. Upon reading it I exclaimed "Oh crap! Tomorrow is my birthday!" And that is how I realized it. I set about calling a small group of people who I knew were in town to see if they wanted to meet me for tacos the next day.

Today I woke up and was treated to a fantastic breakfast by Ed'd. He cooked the best eggs I have ever eaten, and the home fries were fantastic as well! Thanks again Ed'd. Here is the breakfast spread I received
And here is the note.
After breakfast I biked to the Dentist's office. Davis Family Dentistry is the name of the place. I had no complaints about the care I received, but it is nothing like going to Dr. Doi's office. While all the work on my teeth was done in a quick and efficient manner, it felt a lot like I was a car, and I was there for a tune up. The nurse never introduced herself, and the only words she spoke to me were "Open wider." The doctor was skilled, but he too could have used an improvement in his raport with patients. Basically, the lack of obnoxious, distracting questions made me very nervous, and during the polishing part I realized that I was squeezing my hands so tightly that my arms began to cramp. Would I go back? Yeah, I guess so.

I then biked around town doing errands. What a beautiful day for a bike ride. When I considered the price of gas at the moment and the events in the world in general, I felt to guilty to drive. And I'm glad I didn't, because it was so pleasant. I had forgotten that riding your bike without a 30 pound back pack is actually an enjoyable experience. Among my errands: a haircut, paying tuition, buying Kim-chee, buying soy yoghurt and cashing a check.

In the evening I met with the group of friends I had rapidly assembled at Guad, the most authentic Mexican food restaurant in town. Fun dinner. Very relaxed.
I returned home and met up with Rick, who had come over to visit. I then tried to cook Mochi. Spectacular failure resulted. I instead succeeded in making something that was exactly like sugary Play Dough. If anybody has a good recipe for regular, plain mochi with nothing fancy in it, I would love to get a copy.

As a final note, you may see a change to my blog in the near future. I have signed up for advertising. I have been considering doing this for a while, but I had not wanted to because I have no need for money and I didn't want to "sell out". However, I thought up an idea that I like. I could get ads, and then donate the revenue to charity. I have decided that, when I do receive my first check I will be donating it all to Habitat for Humanity. Since the ads create more revenue based on how many people visit your site and click on the ads, please visit often. If you see something that you might be interested in, click on it. You will be helping to rebuild New Orleans just by reading about my boring life!
